History of Buttons and Military Buttons
In the very beginning it was probably a thorn or fish bone that served as a fastener for a garment.
All this was in prehistoric times – the Stone Age, but from our perspective, a full button originated in the Bronze Age, at which point it can be found together with a pin or needle and then the button was used as a decorative item. The first practical use was in the 12th-13th centuries.
With the spread of fashion in the Rococo period, buttons became a cult – it was a time when coats and vests had more than 70 buttons!!! The first to use the new element of clothing were the nobility, but even senior officers began to be interested and it didn’t take long for this fashion to take hold in the Czech Republic.
The first pioneer was named Christian Heike Petrovic since 1770 in northern Bohemia from where it spread to the rest of the Czech Republic and Vienna.
