Description
This badge is a silver coloured metal button with back and horizontal jewellers pin fitting; the outside a circle with the words FOR HONOURABLE SERVICE; the centre with CANADA on a scroll surmounted by a Tudor Crown with the inside red; from the shank three maple leaves.
A nice little silver badge awarded to personnel of the Canadian expeditionary force who served abroad and were returned home due to injury or completion of service, very similar to our silver war badge. To the front it has ‘for honourable service’ and on the reverse the makers name of Caron Bros Montreal 1919, the recipients number is to the top 19341 and to the middle ‘penalty for misuse 500 dollars or six months imprisonment’. The badge comes in good but used condition with lots of old brasso in the detail, this should clean up, it has a pin back and has been well used, it measures one inch in diameter.
- Members of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) not eligible for Class A or B who served with pay for an aggregate period not less than three months, and had been retired or honourably discharged, including those who suffered a disability due to military service and had been discharged solely due to the disability before they served three months.
- Members of the Active Militia of Canada who, had they remained on duty until the completion of the arrangements authorized by P.C. 1569 (National Archives of Canada, RG 2, Vol. 1200, File 22 June 1918, P.C. 1569.), would have become members of the CEF, provided they served with pay for an aggregate period not less than three months and had been retired or honourably discharged, including those who suffered a disability due to military service, and been discharged solely due to the disability before they served three months.
